Butterflies

A lot of times in the past, when I went to new places and I was surrounded by a lot of new people and a lot of new girls, I'd kind of develop a crush on one or whatever, and I'd get butterflies in my stomach whenever I saw them or talked to them or something like that. And I noticed that that hasn't happened here at all, and I was just wondering why.

It could be because I already have Gina, and I don't need/want anyone/thing else. I know that I definitely had butterflies in my stomach around the end of July when all the exciting things were happening with us, so I know it's still in me and that I felt it recently for her... but it hasn't happened here.

I think another part of it might be because I used to develop crushes on people that I sort of idolized... but now I pretty much idolize everyone. I feel like everyone has so much to teach me and so much to do and so many exciting things and possibilites and oh my god, people are just so good, how could I ever feel more about one than another?

Of course, I do... just not here.

I can't figure out why that is.

All in all, I think that's a good thing.

//

I have the word "MAILBOX" scrawled on my arm in thick Sharpie ink. It's been there for a few days. A few people have asked me if it was a tattoo. I didn't know if that was a compliment or not.

//

I think I'm wearing my t-shirt inside out.

//

I'm glad I wore a shirt tonight.

Peace out.

Talent

Tonight was the talent show and I sang Bitches Ain't Shit. People seemed to dig it for the most part. The guy that provided the keyboard was a huge BFF fan, and when he found out I was playing that song he was super excited, so I asked him to sing with me, and he did, and it was really cool.

Everyone said Kayla was incredible. I wish I had been there to hear her. I'm sure I will sometime...

Peace.

Registration

So we're allowed to register for courses starting in about 31 minutes. I'm going to be sitting here at my computer RACING to get everything done as fast as possible. So far, my schedule is kind of like this:

1. EDUC0410B - 11085 - Controversies in American Public Education
2. MATH0350 - 13519 - 3rd Semester/Multivariable Calculus Honors
3. APMA0330 - 12358 - Applied Mathematics I & II
4. MATH0180 - 14708 - 3rd Semester/Multivariable Calculus
5. CSCI0150 - 10507 - Introduction to Computer Programming
6. MATH0170 - 13504 - 2nd Semester/BC Calculus, Advanced Placement
7. MUSC1100 - 12495 - Introduction to Musical Composition

I'm locked into the 1st one on that list so I don't need to worry about that. The 7th one I don't think I can get today because you need either a prerequisite course that I haven't taken or the written permission of the instructor... whom I CANNOT GET IN CONTACT WITH. But I have 2 weeks to change my schedule so I'm sure it'll be cool.

Musical open house/auditions tonight at 6. Then a lecture on sexual assault. Yaaaaaaaaay.

Peace!

Accosted!

I was accosted by a strange man tonight.

I was at the building right next to SciLi and I decided I didn't want to sit through Pan's Labyrinth, so I decided to walk home. I made it all the way up Thayer St. alone without any problems, and then I turned to get back to my dorm. Right then a guy in an old white car pulled up and put down the window, and said

"Hey buddy!"

And I was like.... um.... okay I think this feels wrong but maybe he's legit so I guess I'll see what's up.

"Yeah?"

"I know this is weird, but... I need to ask you a small favor, do you think you can help me?"

And I was like, "Uh.... I'm not .... really...."

At that point he said, "Look, dude, I'm a sane, educated man, I'm not trying to hurt you." Which was a clear indication that he was not sane, not education, and not not trying to hurt me. He said, "This is the first time this has happened in my life, but I can't find any gas station in the area and they're all closed" and I just said,

"I don't think I can help you."

It was very clear that I could not and should not help him. I think you figured that out by now. Why would he pick me? Alone? In a back alley? Why would he assure me that he wasn't trying to hurt me? Anyway, there were a couple girls walking through, so I joined them and said thanks to them later for protecting me, then came back to my dorm.

Peace out!

First Monday

So I got up today a little later and went to breakfast with Sam and Nupur and whoever else we would meet. We ended up meeting a bunch of kids, including Jules and her neighbor Joella.

Last night I went to a carnival and I sang "Sugar We're Going Down Swinging" karaoke with Nupur. Apparently a girl named Yanely took a picture of me... still waiting on that.

I took the math [calculus] placement exam today and Dr. Banchoff told me I should take 3rd Semester calculus. I was so happy! But I'm also anxious. My dad was afraid of that. We'll see how it goes.

Today I went down my buddy list and sent a message to everyone. Just to say hi. It was pretty cool.

I ran into Christine at the calc placement exam. She's the one in my unit who plays piano, went to an all girls catholic school, and ate so many carrots when she was little that she turned ornage/yellow. She was really cool, and asked me to eat lunch with her, but I had to run around.

So I went to look for the music building and went WAY TOO FAR but then found it and it was closed... I was sad.

Then I tried to find the post office, and I couldn't find that, either.

Then I tried to find the place where I have to sign my scholarship and couldn't find that either.

I also had that book meeting about the Proust book. The advisor (Steinberg) didn't really like the book, but for some reason he gave a LOT of talking time to the kids who liked the book. They had some really interesting things to say, but I wish I had heard the kids who didn't like the book speak up more. I'm sure they had really interesting thoughts on the book, too. I met a kid there named Arthur, from New York, who seems like a really nice guy and lives in Pembroke [Emory]. Hopefully I'll see more of him.

I need to eat lunch!

Peace

Stories 1

While my old folders are being transferred from one computer to another, I think I'll write part of the story of Kristin.

When I was young, and all the kids in the kids in the neighborhood would play together, every once in a while Jeff or Kevin Wittman would come and play with us. They both seemed extremely skilled, I remember, but part of that is because Kevin was old and Jeff was an athlete. And somehow I remember always knowing that they had a little sister named Kristin (didn't know how to spell it at the time), but I never saw her. Then Kevin left for college, Jeff got cool, and I stopped knowing about the Wittman family.

Then one day at band camp during my senior year, I saw one of the Wittman brothers standing next to a girl that looked very vaguely similar to them, and I figured it must be his little sister. I realized that I'd never talked to her before, or even seen her before. But I remember thinking that she ran with a pretty cool crew, and I knew she lived in my neighborhood, and I figured I should try talking to her sometime.

I think there may have been a couple words between, but our first real conversation was on the very last bus ride back from a band performance - December 2nd, 2006, I believe, from Pottstown, at about 10:30PM and in freezing, freezing weather. I had the choice of sitting in the front with the pit, or in the back with Kristin and her crew of freshmen that, for some reason, I had an unfairly high opinion of. I knew that I could ride with the pit during drumline season, so I went back and started talking to Kristin and her friends [including Susan and Kristen].

I can't remember everything we talked about that night - probably Matt, cereal, her family, her dad, dreams, sleeping, ATP, school, band, that sort of thing - but I remember thinking that I had a very good time and I would have liked to talked to her again, so I gave her my screenname since it was super easy to remember.

Oh, the first time she saw me was on my Emo Day, and she was afraid of me.

And between then and the next time I talked to her, I told Wasiq her group's secrets for ATP, because I just didn't think they were important.

So, I think, our second IM conversation was not a very fun one. She was very angry and betrayed and I was guilty and ashamed. And I felt like she might never talk to me again. Especially because I felt like she kept twisting my words so she could be more angry at me. But, for some reason - maybe it was the promise of cookies - she continued to talk to me.

There's a lot more to this story, but I have to go to dinner. Peace!

To Do

I only have about 48 hours left in this town [until Providence, RI becomes my mailing address], but I feel like I have a million things to do and see. I have to give the Hi-Q gift to Dr. Arensberg, I have to talk to Mr. DeMarro about payment and drumline and Tom, I have to instruct one last day of band camp and hand control over to Katie and print out the scores again because she took them, I have to go out out to dinner tonight with all of my friends at T.G.I Friday's [Painter's Crossing], I have to go for a walk with Kristin, I have to go for a drive with Gina, I have to light candles, I have to watch The Daily Show one last time, I have to write letters, I have to finish letters, I have to back up lots of information, I have to set up my computer, I have to print out pictures, I have to pack, I have to say goodbyes. I have to update this thing with stories from this summer, many of which are wonderful. I have to start writing in more detail.

Peace.

Yay!

Alright, so I finally got it so that I am all cookied up by Google/Blogger and I can just click "new post" from my desktop and I come right here, plus I actually like the design, and I think I'll actually be easily able/motivated to update here. Unfortunately it's on a website with the word "blog" in it, which is pretty much my least favorite word. And I think the cookie might run out after two weeks. We'll see how it goes.

Peace!

Still Trying to Figure This Out
